Watercolor Christmas for #GDP109

Hi, Friends!

Today I'm playing along with the Color Challenge at Global Design Project.  What a beautiful palette - Gold, Basic Black & Old Olive - fresh & funky!  It seems like these colors are everywhere this season.  They are even in the October Paper Pumpkin kit, which is gorgeous!

Here's what I came up with -

I used the Watercolor Christmas stamp set and Basic Black Archival ink for the rich, bold black color.  My card base is Crumb Cake with a Basic Black mat.  Watercolor paper is the base for the card front.  I used my Old Olive watercolor pencil to scribble on some color and then spread it around with an Aqua Painter on the top half of the card.  Some spatters "flicked" off the tip of the Aqua Painter add even more interest to the watercolor look.  (Hint: use a piece of scrap paper to cover any area you don't want spatters on!)

On the bottom half of the card, I randomly stamped the tree images and casually colored them with Old Olive on a Blender Pen.  Notice I said casual - to mimic the watercolor look!  I can do better than this when I really try :)

A strip of 3/4" Basic Black cardstock flagged at one end with the Triple Banner Punch separates the top & bottom of my card.  Season of Cheer is stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock and die-cut with my Stitched Shapes Framelits.

I layered the sentiment on top of a Gold Foil Snowflake using Liquid Multipurpose Glue.  Both pieces are attached to the card front as a unit with Fast Fuse and trimmed to match the right edge of the Watercolor Paper.  Three iridescent sequins add even more sparkle!

Sympathy with Oh So Eclectic

Hi Friends,

It's been a while since I've shared anything here.  We've had a big excavation project going on at our house and our internet has been down for 3 weeks!  Thank goodness it's finally over and I'm back online.  I think I was suffering from withdrawal!

The card swap theme at our last team meeting was "Sympathy", and here is the card I created:

The falling blossoms are from Oh So Eclectic, stamped in Soft Sky ink.  I added a single image from the matching die-cuts with 3 small pearls to accent it.

The card base is made of Soft Sky cardstock.  The 4" x 5-1/4" mat is cut from Dapper Denim, and the card front is Whisper White.  The "with sympathy" is from the Rose Wonder photopolymer stamp set.  I stamped it in Versamark ink, sprinkled with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder and used my Heat Tool to set it.  I used the matching die-cut in the Rose Garden Thinlits to cut this but it would be simple to fussy-cut, too!  It's attached with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The inside is finished simply with one of the sentiments from Rose Garden (Dapper Denim) and a single blossom from Oh So Eclectic (Soft Sky).

Sympathy cards are my least favorite to make but unfortunately, needed all too often.  I like to keep them simple with soft colors.  Sweet Sugarplum accented with Fresh Fig is another good color combination for this card.  I hope you'll be inspired to try making this design!
